A recent study published in the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy evaluated the effectiveness of oral esomeprazole (EPZ) in comparison with injectable omeprazole (OPZ) therapy to prevent hemorrhage after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). This case-control study recruited 258 patients. Among these, 71 patients were treated with oral EPZ and 172 with injectable OPZ; the primary endpoint was incidence of hemorrhage after ESD. It was noted that 65 matched samples exhibited no difference in the incidence of hemorrhage after ESD, between the oral EPZ and injectable OPZ groups. Therefore, it was inferred that oral EPZ therapy is a useful alternative to injectable proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy for the prevention of hemorrhage after ESD.1
